But before we try to explain stress and acknowledge the fact that in this highly advanced society into which we have evolved in the last fifty years, in a society that we have made major medical advances in the treatment of traditional diseases, stress has now emerged as the number one health enemy.

Recent studies have shown stress to be one of the primary causes of cardiovascular disease, heart disease, hypertension and stroke, as well as, being a contributing factor to various types of cancer, ulcers, migraines and weakening the immune system.
In our fast paced society and overloaded "lifestyle", stress wreaks havoc and exhaust our natural defenses leaving the body open to a variety of health problems, including, targeting the heart and the cardiovascular system.

Do you know what your body goes through when you are under stress?
Stress is simply an individual response to a taxing physical, emotional or environmental demand. Though the body is equipped to deal with short, brief, episodes, to much high-level stress on a regular bases will eventually take a heavy toll on your mental and physical health.
The body's initial reaction to stress, the "fight or flight" response, is a natural and healthy reaction to which the body prepares for battle, or a fast get away. This is good!!
The problems stay around long after the stress period is over.
However, problems arise, when the stress stays around for a prolonged period of time. It causes a variety of unhealthy conditions. Some factors that cause stress are, job pressure, family discord, financial problems, injuries, illness or some traumatic event.
Do you know that stress contributes to many of the diseases we encounter?
In many professional circles, it has been acknowledged that stress is the simple most contributing factor to many of the diseases we encounter in our modern society today. A quick ballpark estimate would be somewhere in about 80% of the cases.
However, as with anything, there are many "lifestyle" changes you can undertake to reduce, or at least control, this thing called stress.
Lets step up to the plate and change our stress!
