"Could this be sugar?"
Do you believe the answers are all there if you just pay attention to the signs along the way? Here is what happened to me!
I was the owner of a small chain of Beauty Salons. I hired a beautiful girl who told me from the beginning that she would really work hard but would usually get sick often. She also told me she did not like getting sick and would do everything she could to make it to work. She had tried to find out why this was happening to her, but the doctors did not have any answer.
Well, believe it or not, I decided to hire her. She was so cute; I had to take a chance. The truth is, she did what she said she would do and to cut short my long story, there were days she would show up for work and I could see she could barely stay awake, let alone stand on her feet.
To begin with, I would ask the questions; Did you get enough sleep? Yes. Are you sick at your stomach? No. Do you want to go home? No.
To sum it up, I would let her lay down and she would be okay within a few minutes and go work and work the full day. I could not get this situation out of my mind.
Okay, now lets get to my story about being on that awareness level.
I was on vacation in San Francisco and I walked into a small bookstore. I was browsing around and I came across a book. I can remember it like I was there again. It was a pink book. The author was Dr. William G. Crook. The name of the book was "The Yeast Connection" and I could not put it down. But this book would change me for the rest of my life. There it was ...my answer! This had to be what was happening to my new employee.
This information opened my eyes to a new understanding of SUGAR. Yes, Candida yeast infections, nutrition, sugar, and how we do abuse our body with food. The food that you think is fun food can be the very food that is compromising your health; Food like candy, white bread, white potatoes, white refined rice and even milk. It was a small education, but a big step to the next part of my life.
At that moment, I realized my faithful employee must be eating sugar and crashing in the morning. I could not wait to tell her.
Now pay attention to this! She was eating heavy sugar coated cereal with milk, in the morning and as the book said, milk has lactose another form of sugar; Two sugars for breakfast on an empty stomach.
According to the book by Dr. Crook, there are many forms of sugar ...lets just say she had more sugar in the bowl than nutrition. She was feeding the yeast bacteria (Candida Albicans) in her body that was harboring sickness. How scary is that!!
I still panic over the holidays when we promote sugar in so many ways and worst of all give it to our children so freely.
Now consider what happens when you feed your child pizza (white refined flour that turns to sugar with gluten added) for supper ...with a glass of soda with 26 to 36 grams of sugar and then top it off you say, "If you eat your supper, I'll give you a desert (more sugar). Soon you see perfectly good children start to fight and cry and you relate it to being tired (which the sugar played a part in too).
Please understand, I was no different than you. I was making my children happy for the moment ...thinking I was a good mother. I was not educated to these facts and then you have to ask yourself why? Why do our doctors not tell us the truth? Why do we have to struggle to find the truth? Why did the truth take so long to surface when they knew it all along? Who are they?
Quite simply, the truth is out there, but you have to become aware. Don't just pass over the truths by looking only on the surface. Look for the signs along the way to stay healthy.
The final facts is research the information from professionals that have studied and believe in nutrition ...like Linus Pauling, two time Nobel Prize winner, or Dr William G. Crook, for his study in nutrition, and Nancy Appleton, PH.D for her great books, "Get the Sugar out" and "Heal Yourself with Natural Foods." We can go as far as your mind can imagine.

May not need to stop in, but the consumption of sugar in balance. Because humans need sugar. Sorry, if in my opinion mistaken.
I think Americans are addicted to sugar - all manufactured food is full of sugar so that we are eating it without really noticing.
Great info, GJCody. Sugar rush is inevitably followed by sugar crash. Glad you got your employee straightened out. Sounds like she was worth the effort. And thanks for sharing this vital news with us, too. There is so much sugar hiding in foods that we don't even know about -- that's not even counting the ones we DO know about!

You can't stop cold turkey--your body will go into withdrawal. Been there done that. When I have had too much sugar I can feel it--really feel it. I am not diabetic--yet but I can feel when it is time to stop the surgar. Although I am this way I have to have suagar in my house--my husband grew up Hypoglycemic. He has to drin or have Orange Juice in the house--fine for me I can't drink that. I also feed humming birds.
Oh Hallelujah - I love it when someone spills the awful truth about sugar. When you're tired of being tired the last thing that will help is another boost of sugar, and yet modern countries are full of sugar laden foods. Our bodies just weren't meant to cope with this amount of refined sugar, it's not wonder we're gumpy, fatigued and just plain tired of being tired. I hope your hub inspires people to sit up and take action :)

Great information - in the past I have worked with many patients with Yeast Overgrowth Syndrome. FYI: there are bad sugars and good sugars - take a look at http://www.glycoscience.org.
Thank you so much gjcody for your honest hard work. My own due diligence has now totaled some 2700 hours+ of research on lab research of disease, food and the microscope aspects of the human body and processes.
A cells natural energy production comes from oxygen. Sugars reduce this molecule, which by the way is the most abundant one in your body. The cell adopts by force a sugar fermentation process which further negates oxygen from the cell. This is where cellular mutations begin as mitosis can no longer be preformed properly.
I work mostly with terminally ill to turn them around...

I loved your article. A few years ago, I wanted to prove the point to myself that sugar was bad so I ate junk food for an entire day (which is not like me. The next morning it was almost like having a hangover. For those who don't believe, try this yourself and you will understand.
